We've had Basic Talk for a couple of years and are getting ready to dump it. The problem we have is that several times a month, the service goes down with the message "check telephone line". We've done all of the things they recommend in troubleshooting - plug the phone directly into the box, restart internet modem, etc. - but none of these solve the problem. We rely on BasicTalk as our land line and it was down for over six hours yesterday when I was waiting for important calls. Their tech support has gone way downhill, so I don't get help until this morning, when, of course, it's working normally again. I wouldn't use BasicTalk, knowing what I do now.

The only upside to this is how cheap it is. The service is out every single day, I have to keep checking that there is dial tone, if there is no dial tone I have to disconnect the box, reconnect, and wait until it resets. Service is restored until the next day. I have complained several times, nothing gets fixed. There aren't many other options at this time, but the next time I find a service that I can use, I will not hesitate to drop these people.

I never got this service to work. I had initial problem's getting a dial tone. I then got dial tone after an hour on the phone. Then I noticed we had no ring tone. The Tech would tell me to do this and that, a monumental task. It seems that the equipment is to sensitive and very problematic. Customer service is a little better than MagicJack, but still terrible. Seems to break down very easy.

Works great with Cable provided high speed broadband. I have not tried it with lower speed DSL that I am looking to do in a summer home. Never had any billing, customer service or other problems. Actually much better quality than I expected. I use this service for domestic long distance only.

I love BasicTalk. It's affordable and easy to set up. Only thing that sucks about it is that unless you have your own phone number to take with you they don't provide you with a local number. Luckily I did have one to take with me. That's the only downfall I can see with it! I'd still recommend it though!

I have had this service for over a year, and I am very pleased with it. There are issues with hands-free usage, but I believe it is my phone system, not BasicTalk. Voice quality is excellent, features are limited, but I have everything I need. I recommended this system highly, especially if you want to keep your number. There is no extra charge. You won't be sorry.

Dropped phone calls dont bother me as this phone service is cheap. If the connection is not good then hang up and call back. I think this is a great deal and minor inconveniences dont bother me for 12 bucks a month. If you call over 3,000 minutes in a month you deserve to be charged more! AT&T look out. Customer service is better than AT&T. Every month AT&T got my bill wrong and I would spend 1 hour each month fixing it. I've never been overcharged by BasicTalk. Amen, LOL!

The BEST bargain telephone service in the world, with beautiful sound quality and consistent quality compared to everyone else. I have had the service for three months, my wife uses about 1000 minutes a month with NO problems on our end. Most problems originate with cheap DSL or slow cable. I have never had a problem that I needed customer service and most problems can be solved with their online problem solving advice. Bet BasicTalk and you will like it!

This is my 3rd provider of voip phone service. The first was with a 2 year up front fee and was terrible. The "friendly" service department was friendly but useless. It quit working after 5 months. The second was good with Time Warner but expensive. I have had Basictalk for a couple of months now and it is great. I bought the box at Walmart instead of taking the free one on line, thinking I would take it back if I didn't like the service. The $10 could have been saved, lesson learned.

No complaints with the phone service itself, but they promised to move over my old number. They didn't transfer it and they kept sending me emails saying they couldn't do this after all because my old service was disconnected. So I'm calling my old number and the phone is still ringing at my house and I can answer it and hear fine, and I tell them this but they keep insisting that my old number is disconnected and they can't transfer it! Clueless. They use offshore chat only, no phone number to call for help so you can't speak to a live person. Can't get issues resolved. Probably the worst customer service I've received in a long time.
VISITOR/PROVIDER FEEDBACK:
Duane (March 20th 2015) : I didn't even follow instructions. Just plug in and go, easy as 1-2-3. Better clarity and sound quality than Verizon. If you have a problem with this service then you have other problems!
